Staying up to date on all things Emma Harner
A Substack, for those unfamiliar, can serve as many things- a blog, an email list, a collection of videos- and I have chosen to shift my mailing list efforts here for that reason.
Why this, why now?
In the topsy-turvy world of social media, most posts that I make only make it to a fraction of my followers, and that’s not uncommon. Many people follow and then the algorithm never shows them something of mine again! A direct connection to fans is so important and this year, I want to build that foundation.
What will this be?
I’m not quite sure what exactly my Substack, which I have appropriately named Guitar-ing, will become, but the vision I have for it now is simple: email list-esque updates, blog posts, and more music nerd content.
What have I been up to recently?
If you missed it, I released my song “Do It” everywhere. Listen here! Also, I have been trying to post more on YouTube. My latest post (pictured above) is a cute little impromptu version of my song “Cowboy Chords”, live from the Fens (a park in Boston). This song is different from my others because I tried to write as interesting a song as I could (that was still catchy and good) with only strummed basic chords. If you know anything about my previous work, that’s not my usual approach, but I love how it turned out. Watch it here.
I also just released a live version of “Do It” on YouTube here. A download of the mp3 is available for $1 on Bandcamp if you’d like to support me. Many people asked for a live version of the song to listen to, so I hope this satisfies that itch. I am really happy with how the live version turned out, and I have more to come! My upcoming EP, “Taking My Side”, was recorded twice: once in the studio and once live in front of a camera. This release is the first part of that latter collection.
Thanks for your support and see you again soon!
